JUNE 2021

What's not to love about the month of June, i.e., schools out, it's the start of summer, the weather warms, flowers are blooming, we celebrate Father's Day along with the birthdays of Jackie and the capt. All good stuff. This year we were able to add a boat trip to Catalina and later this month an excursion to the Sierra.

Our nephew El Jeffe joined us on Serenity Now as we spent a night in Newport Harbor, one windy night in 4th of July Cove (Big Geiger was occupied), two great nights in Moonstone at White's Landing and the final night and the capt's birthday on the hook at Willow. Thank you Admiral for making this trip so special. Bravo Zulu!

A NIESPODZIANY

BOAT BITES & BRUISES

            VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED

Recently, while underway, the capt fell on his behind and as you probably know there are very few soft spots on a boat. Right cheek made hard contact with the cockpit seat edge and the edge won. The result is a nomination for the "Boat Bite of the Year 2021".

BVI BOUND

Sailor Mike will be doing some bareboating next month in the British Virgin Islands and needed a basic-sailing-crash-course before his adventure. We took an afternoon on the water to review radio procedure, man overboard, stopping the boat at sea, coming about, etc, etc, etc. I'm sure he'll do fine and have a great time too. Lucky guy!

SULLIVAN'S BEACH

Memorial Day 2021 found us bound for the west end of Catalina. We moored in Howland's Landing just east of Emerald Bay. At precisely 8:00 AM each morning, a particular boater fires a cannon. It's very loud. If you're not ready or haven't heard it before, it will startle the crap out of you. It's a tradition started many years ago by his dad. The tradition lives on! All the island yacht clubs were beginning their seasons so there was a fair amount of yachtie activity. The air and breeze were chilly at times and the water a brisk 64 degrees. The cool weather made for some good hikes from the Isthmus. Island time is always a good time and this trip did not disappoint. Sail on sailor!
