NORTH TO ALASKA

The grays are making their journey back now to fatten up and ready themselves for next years Mexican migration. We hadn't spotted any this season until yesterday, and it was a real spectacle. One of the giants breached for us, not once but twice. A very uncommon sighting in these waters.

The Baja Banditos, Captain Cabo and Senora Deb, joined us for an afternoon of sailing and whale watching and it couldn't have been any better. The air had a bite to it, it was blowing 15-20 knots, and you could see snow on Saddleback and Mt. Baldy. Super day with super friends.

ANZA BORREGO

With the wet weather (we're up to 18.5 inches of rain for the season) it was time to hit the road and get out of Dodge. Never been to Borrego Springs before and it turned out to be a very pleasant visit this time of year. Can imagine it's a tad warm during the summer as one of our hikes took us into Hellhole Canyon. Our coolest hike was in The Slot, a river wash that has carved and chiseled the sandstone for the past zillion years. Great trip!

One of the many metal sculptures in the area

It got pretty narrow in a few places

17.5 INCHES SO FAR THIS SEASON

Our backyard rain gauge had 5" from the last rain. No need to wash down Serenity Now in this weather.

A NIESPODZIANY DAY

We went down to the boat Saturday to have lunch and do some cleanup work but our plans changed when we saw what a beautiful day it was. The maintenance can wait, "Let's go sailing!" and off we went. It couldn't have been nicer; great visibility, billowing clouds and a crispness in the air. It was a true niespodziany (that's "surprise" for all of our non-Polish friends).
