THE THREE STOOGES

Tony, a life-long power boat owner and K-Dock friend, had never been sailing and hinted several times he would like the experience. So this week we shoved off, along with Wayne another slip neighbor, to give Tony his maiden voyage aboard a sail boat. As he hoisted the main sail he quipped, "Don't they make electric winches?"

It was a beautiful sunny day but the wind was very, very light. Not exactly what you would want on a first time sail but we enjoyed the afternoon anyways. Many dolphins joined in to keep us company while they displayed their acrobatic talent. Chalk up another good day with good friends!

ONE MORE TIME

The red flag was flying but it was such a beautiful day we had to get out of the slip. So off we went. Thank God we reefed the main leaving the harbor as the wind was a consistent 15-30 knots. Exciting!

MAKO MADNESS

Ranger Greg asked about this pic so therefore the repost. Released this mako hooked on a cedar plug trailing a Storm. Irresistible presentation.

RED FLAG FLYING

The small craft warning was up when the Admiral and I took to the sea Saturday afternoon. A decent west swell kept things interesting and us on our toes as we traveled on a southerly course. It can get real windy as you return and approach the harbor entrance and today was no exception. We were both thinking to ourselves "there is a small craft warning". Another great day for the ship's log!

A WEEKEND IN NEWPORT

Three hours up the coast from Dana Point lies Newport Harbor, an expansive marine enclave that has much to offer. The cool nights were tempered by the warm daytime sun as we enjoyed the anchorage just east of Lido Island. Serenity Now!

The last storm caused havoc to the entrance light.

THE LAST DAY OF JANUARY

Braving the chilly weather, the Admiral and I ventured out for an afternoon sail. The visibility was outstanding allowing us to see Blackjack, a peak on Catalina, and the snow-capped San Gabriel Mountains and Mt. Baldy. Our nephew once said there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. We stayed warm and enjoyed a super day on the water.
