We were finishing up a job, it was a little after noon, and I asked my friend and contractor a simple question. "What are you doing this afternoon?" Keep in mind it's a gorgeous summer day, warm and the wind is blowing. His response, "Headed home to do a little work in the garden." ABORT, ABORT, ABORT. Let's go sailing! Super day on the water with a long time local and good guy.

NEWPORT BAY
Being in or on the water with a sea breeze is one way to beat the heatwave we've been experiencing lately. So we topped off the water tanks and ventured up to Newport to spend a few nights and enjoy a change in scenery. The harbor holds many memories of yesteryear; learning how to sail, maneuvering through the mooring fields, keeping our outrigger on a beach, and later living on the peninsula. All great memories.

Love this anchorage, plenty of room and like a lake most of the time. |

DANALINA RACES
Little sailors were out in force the other afternoon in the harbor. We enjoyed a 360 degree view of the action anchored in the middle of the race course. It's amazing to watch these youngsters at the tiller.

CELEBRATING THE 4TH ON THE 3RD
Experience is the best teacher and we have learned over the years that the marina can get real crazy on Independence Day. So...we forgo the fireworks and spend a mellow afternoon and barbecue the day before. Works for us!
