NEWPORT HARBOR

With iffy weather in the forecast, we decided to spend several nights up the coast rather than make the trip to Santa Catalina. The anchorage is east of Lido Isle and we had it to ourselves. During the days we explored the Back Bay and dinghyed to the Fun Zone to take some nice long walks. The first day we made it to The Wedge, the next day to the Newport Pier. I had forgotten  how much beach and sand they have there. Except for the summer traffic, that peninsula is a very cool place.

At anchor with Fashion Island in the background.

Our welcoming committee on the way home. They're pretty excited to see us.

The only problem with anchoring in Newport is the cleanup. It's the stickiest mud you'll ever see. Not in the picture is 40 feet of muddy chain.
