It was a wonderful change of scenery and the accomadations in Mammoth were wonderful, thanks to Bobby and Denise.
The hikes we took and scenery were took in were absolutely breathtaking!! Loved the McGee Creek trail in particular. Saw a Beaver lodge and dam, walked a mile through Aspen trees (can't imagine how beautiful the trees are in the fall)and viewed amazing beauty along the way. We we met an 84 year old backpacker who was packing with 3 women. He has been hiking the Sierra since 1952. He has does Whitney 8 times and plans to do it again on his 85th birthday!! Push over George H. He had a triple by-pass several years ago and 3 stints put in 2 years ago. He stated that one slipped so his breathing wasn't quite as good!! We were at 11,000 when we met them. (his pic is in the slide show). We also met an 81 year old man on our hike to Crystal Lake. He was on his way to Mammoth Crest and beyond for a day hike!! Both men were truly an inspiration that Dennis and I will not forget.
Our last night we surprised nephew Greg by showing up at the Mobil station at Lee Vining to listen to the Adam Burns band that Greg plays in. It was a great night and a wonderful way to end a most memorable trip to the Sierra!!
Loved your film and slide show! How great and what wonderful memories. The "mature" hikers you met were little angels along the way to encourage you to keep doing just what you are doing: loving nature and enjoying its bounty. Just keep on hikin". So glad you enjoyed the gift of the Sierras. Each time awesome, yet each time different. LOVED the music, just perfect for your blog. Love, Denise
Serenity NOW is a 2000 Catalina 36 MK-II designed for coastal cruising. She's berthed in Dana Point, CA and since 2003 has made over 130 passages to Catalina Island, with overnight visits to five of the eight California Channel Islands: Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Anacapa, San Clemente and Catalina. We've overnighted at Isla de Cedros off Baja and have explored the coast from Santa Barbara to the East Cape of Baja Sur, Mexico. She has weighed anchor in excess of 285 times. We've put thousands of miles under her keel. She's an ocean-going maritime mobile home and we love her!
