SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

What do nearly all red-blooded sailors do on Super Bowl Sunday? They go sailing! Sailor Jerry, El Jeffe and I had a very mellow afternoon on the water in search of wind, whales and dolphins. Like most mammals on this day, our aquatic friends were nowhere to be found, they were probably at a party in front of a TV somewhere. The wind was light, the air brisk and cold, but the mood was undeniably enthusiastic.

PS We did make it home for an exciting OT finish to the game.

ONE HUNDRED & NINTH

Our inaugural Catalina trip for 2017 marked the 109th time we ventured to the island. The weather is always iffy this time of year and the forecasters are not 100% accurate but we took the gamble and it payed off. The weather gods were good to us as we beat the rain home yesterday. The temps were on the chilly side, 48 degrees one morning with the highs in the low 60's but the hiking and fishing were excellent.

The San Gabriel Mountains were snow-capped from Baldy to Wilson.

Great way to start the year.

RED SKY IN MORNING, SAILORS TAKE WARNING

We were greeted by another beautiful sunrise this morning. A welcomed break in the weather allowed us to enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the water. Calm conditions and light winds were perfect for dolphin watching. Plenty of dolphins but no whales today. The rain is on its way.

Look closely and you'll see snow on the top of Mt. Baldy.

GOOD MORNING

The days have been on the cool side and we've been getting a fair amount of much-needed rain so there hasn't been any time for Serenity Now. But that will change as we get closer to spring. This morning's sunrise from home was picture worthy.

WEATHER DICTATES

Our recently scheduled three-nighter to the island was cancelled because of some adverse weather. We would have been coming home today in the cold rain. Wise choice.
