WHERE DO SAILORS GO ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND?

This weekend marks the beginning of the boating summer season for thousands of mariners across America. We decided to forego a trip to the crowded shores of Catalina and try a few nights in Newport Harbor. There's a beautiful anchorage east of Lido Isle that we have frequented in the past. We arrived on a Thursday and by Saturday morning, it was time to leave. Don't expect to avoid the crowds on this weekend. Happy Memorial Day!

We briefly explored Emerald Bay in Laguna Beach. Looks like a nice anchorage for sometime in the future. 

NO WHALES, NO WORRIES

It appears that the whale migration north is over for those of us in Dana Point but the fun continues. Today some good friends, first-timers on Serenity Now, joined us for a rollicking and bumpy sail. A three foot west swell was mixing with a SE wind swell but the sun was out so all went well. Before calling it a day, we dropped the hook at Danalina to enjoy tons of yummy food and drink. Great day!

BLUE SKY BLUE WATER DAY

The Admiral and I took to the water to enjoy the day in search of the gray baleens that are now migrating north. We found a crusty pair just outside the main jetty making their journey north. Another great whale-watching day.

DHHS ALUMNI SAILING TEAM

The team gathered Sunday for an afternoon on the water. After hoisting the capt up the mast twice, we were finally off. The wind was light, variable and almost non existent but we made the best of it. Naturally, old football stories and politics dominated the conversation. It was a great day.
